Road Cycling Shorts
Road Cycling Shorts: for pedalling comfortably for long hours
To ride, it’s best to be equipped with a comfortable road cycling short. Whether climbing the Col des Portes in the Jura or tackling the Col du Tourmalet in the Pyrenees, it’s crucial to choose the right road cycling shorts. Men's road cycling shorts or Women's road cycling shorts, you must first ensure you make the right choice. A road cycling short should fit you perfectly, so take the time to choose wisely, allowing you to ride for miles and discover new landscapes. Comfort is one of the essential elements when cycling; even a slight discomfort can sometimes make you turn back and lose the desire to ride your bike. You wouldn’t want to climb Mont Ventoux in your running shorts… we certainly wouldn’t recommend it, or you might face discomfort and irritation!
On a bike, comfort means chamois: an insert placed in your road cycling shorts at your intimate areas to provide maximum comfort on the saddle. For long rides, opt for a thick and breathable chamois. The comfort of a road cycling short also involves good sweat management and airflow during your physical activity.
Road Cycling Shorts: to tackle the most iconic climbs
Once you’re comfortably seated on your saddle and have found a road cycling short with a chamois made for you, it’s time to think about performance to face the legendary climbs of France or Europe. When we talk about performance, we refer to the material of your road cycling shorts. Choose road cycling shorts made from breathable materials to effectively wick away sweat. Lycra is a material with excellent properties for a road cycling short. Generally, it tends to compress you, promoting muscle drainage to reduce fatigue.
If bad weather doesn’t scare you and you enjoy challenges, even if you have to ride through a downpour, you can opt for a road cycling short with a waterproof and water-repellent membrane. Riding a bike is a unique experience, but riding wet is a bit less enjoyable!
Finally, there’s the choice of straps… Most women's cycling shorts don’t have straps, a matter of comfort for you ladies. However, this doesn’t prevent these bib shorts from perfectly shaping the female form for optimal support. The men's cycling shorts will, on the other hand, be equipped with straps. Straps allow for great freedom of movement while climbing a hill. The road cycling short stays perfectly in place and doesn’t cause any discomfort to the cyclist.
