The N°8 Gravure by Opinel is the ideal knife for camping, fishing, or picnicking. Its Yatagan blade made of Sandvik stainless steel is the traditional blade of Opinel knives, recognizable by its upturned tip inspired by a Turkish saber. The blade is ground with an exclusive convex profile that ensures its robustness and allows for effective resharpening. We appreciate its beech handle sourced from French operations, easy to maintain and protected by a varnish. Its locking mechanism Virobloc allows you to keep the knife folded for safe travel or secured in the open position during use. Versatile, robust, and efficient, the N°8 Gravure by Opinel is the knife for mountain-loving purists. This Opinel knife is available in Rando and Vélo versions.
Sandvik Stainless Steel: The modified Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. The stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which allows for a very satisfactory sharpness without being prone to corrosion.
Yatagan Blade: The traditional Opinel blade is known as the Yatagan blade. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish saber, with an upturned tip. The blade is ground with an exclusive convex profile that ensures the robustness of the blade and allows for effective resharpening.
Handle: Beech is the most commonly used wood for Opinel handles. Sourced from French operations, it is hard, durable, and easy to work with. With a homogeneous appearance, its light color ranges from yellow to pinkish. It is recognizable by the presence of numerous small dark streaks. The handle is varnished to be better protected against moisture and dirt.
Safety Ring: Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring equips all folding knives from N°06 onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety in transport).
