A good Cycling Jacket must meet specific requirements: breathability to wick away sweat, weather resistance, and an ergonomic cut suited to your position on the bike. Manufacturers compete in ingenuity to develop increasingly high-performance materials that keep you dry while maintaining your thermal comfort.
What types of cycling jackets are there?
The world of cycling jackets comes in several categories, each addressing specific needs. The windproof cycling jacket is the ultimate versatile option. Ultra-light and packable, it easily slips into a jersey pocket or backpack. Its role? To protect you from chilly drafts during descents or early morning rides when the dew sends shivers down your spine. The waterproof cycling jacket takes protection up a notch. Equipped with a breathable waterproof membrane, it keeps rain at bay while allowing body moisture to escape. Welded seams and waterproof zippers complete this anti-humidity shield, essential for rides in pouring rain. For everyday adventurers, the softshell jacket offers a smart compromise. Half-jacket, half-sweater, it combines wind protection and light thermal insulation. Its stretchy material perfectly hugs your movements, while its water-repellent outer layer repels light showers. Finally, ultra-light rain cycling jackets appeal to weight purists. Foldable into their own pocket, they provide last-minute weather assurance. Their minimalist cut prioritises the essentials: keeping you dry without weighing down your luggage.
How to choose your cycling jacket?
The choice of a Cycling Jacket primarily depends on your riding style and the conditions in which you cycle. For daily commutes in the city, prioritise versatility: a softshell jacket with reflective elements ensures comfort and visibility. Sporty cyclists will appreciate fitted cuts and technical materials that follow every movement.Breathability is a fundamental criterion. A jacket that doesn't breathe quickly turns your ride into a mobile sauna! Water vapour permeability indices inform you about this wicking capability. The lower the RET value, the more effectively the jacket breathes.Details often make the difference: high protective collar, adjustable cuffs, zip under flap, back pocket... These technical elements reveal the attention paid to the cyclist's comfort. Don't forget visibility elements, particularly crucial for your urban commutes or twilight rides. The cut deserves special attention. A well-designed Cycling Jacket features a longer back to cover the lower back in a bent position, pre-shaped sleeves, and a slightly tapered waist. These ergonomic subtleties make all the difference on the road.To complete your cycling gear, consider pairing your jacket with other technical pieces: cycling vests for transitional seasons, trousers for the lower part, or cycling shoes for a complete outfit.
Thermal cycling jackets for winter
Winter radically transforms the cyclist's clothing equation. The thermal cycling jacket becomes your best ally against biting cold and demanding winter conditions. These specialised models incorporate effective insulation, often made of synthetic fibres or technical down. The principle of layering makes perfect sense here. An effective thermal jacket relies on this proven strategy: a base layer wicks moisture, an intermediate layer insulates, and the outer jacket protects against the elements. This modular approach allows you to precisely adapt your level of protection to the intensity of effort and weather conditions.Insulation technologies continue to evolve. Hollow fibres trap warm air while remaining lightweight, while water-repellent treatments protect the insulation from moisture. Some thermal jackets even incorporate strategically placed ventilation zones, activated as needed. For extreme conditions, hybrid models combine several types of materials according to body zones. The torso benefits from reinforced insulation, while the sides prioritise breathability. This intelligent distribution optimises thermal comfort without compromising moisture wicking.Feel free to explore our range of MTB jackets to discover models specially designed to tackle trails in all weather. Winter cycling then becomes a renewed pleasure, far from the dreaded ordeal. The quest for the perfect Cycling Jacket resembles that of the Holy Grail: it probably doesn't exist, but the journey to find it reveals the subtleties of your practice. Between protection, comfort, and performance, each model offers its balance. The essential thing remains to pedal in all weather, equipped with the confidence that comes from suitable gear. After all, there is no bad weather, only unsuitable equipment!

Whether you're an urban cyclist or a mountain biking enthusiast, a Cycling Jacket is an essential part of your gear. Facing the whims of the weather, it faithfully accompanies you on all your rides, combining protection and freedom of movement. But how do you navigate the multitude of available models? From windbreakers to waterproof jackets and thermal coats, each situation calls for its technical solution.
