Arva, 35 years of snow safety equipment

Founded in 1985 by Nicole Giraudon, the Arva brand has distinguished itself at the highest level of snow safety equipment. Based in Annecy, at the heart of the French Alps and its practitioners, the brand is now the leading manufacturer of Avalanche Victim Search Devices for the general public. Over the past 35 years, starting with the first avalanche victim detector, the Arva 4000, the brand has evolved. Arva DVA

Since the launch of the Arva 4000 in 1985, the brand has come a long way. Today, it offers a complete range of Arva DVA. Among its flagship products is the Evo 5. This avalanche victim detector is a concentrate of technology designed to facilitate searches and provide a complex yet easy-to-use device. Equipped with 3 antennas and all the essential features for mountain rescue (50 meters bandwidth, group check, marking, automatic return to transmission, interference management), the EVO 5 is ultra-complete. Its backlit screen and speaker effectively guide you to the burial zone. Another high-end DVA is the Neo Pro. More suited for professional use, it features characteristics such as analog mode, standby mode, and scrolling function to target the victim being searched for. For a more comprehensive use, the Arva packs that combine DVA, shovel, and probe are also offered by the brand and available on our site, such as the Safety Box Evo 5 pack. 

Mountain backpacks 

In recent years, Arva has also specialized in the design and manufacture of ski backpacks and airbag backpacks. The latter allows you to stay on the surface in case of an avalanche and avoid burial. The Reactor 18 airbag is one of those. Its 150-litre airbag, made up of two balloons, opens in seconds after the gas cartridge is triggered, whether in steel like the Steel Reactor bottle or in carbon like the Carbon Reactor bottle. Reliable, ultra-technical, compact, and lightweight, this backpack is perfect for freerando outings or ski touring. Its features make it a versatile bag that can accompany you anywhere. The external straps allow you to secure skis, ice axes, or poles. Its 18-litre volume provides enough space to carry your mandatory safety equipment (shovel and probe) while leaving room for your water bottle, snacks, and spare clothes. The Reactor system emphasizes safety and reliability, with airbag designs aimed at maximizing the ascensional effect in an avalanche. 

Shovels and probes

Paired with your avalanche victim detector, your Arva shovel and your Arva probe should never leave your side during your powder outings. This magical trio doesn’t just allow you to ski anywhere and anytime, but maximizes your chances of survival in case of an accident. These products, as basic as they may seem, are also concentrates of technology with every detail designed to improve your efficiency once on the field. Thus, the Access shovel is made of resistant aluminum to withstand the first shovelful, while the Pin Lock locking system allows for ultra-quick assembly of the blade onto the handle. Similarly, the Access 240 probe is reliable, lightweight, and easy to use to remain effective in emergency situations. Most ski touring backpacks or others have specially designed compartments to accommodate your shovel and probe. 

Arva Accessories:
