Veja
Veja: a responsible brand committed to combating climate change
Founded in 2005 by François-Ghislain Morillion and Sébastien Kopp, the French sneaker brand Veja is one of the first brands of sneakers that are committed to and concerned about the environment. Indeed, the Veja brand uses organic cotton, wild rubber from the Amazon, and recycled plastic bottles to manufacture its sneakers. All these ingredients lead to a very successful mix of innovation and aesthetics. Veja is thus fully committed to defending and protecting the environment, and the brand also seeks to promote fair trade through the purchase of its raw materials when designing its shoes.
Veja thus combines social projects, economic justice, and ecological materials. For Veja, ecology and design are placed on an equal footing, and one does not limit the other; on the contrary, they are complementary. The use of ecological materials allows Veja to be more creative and innovative when manufacturing its shoes. Another advantage for Veja is that the time taken to develop a model is longer, resulting in a much better and fully realized product. According to its founders, the cornerstone of this virtuous balance is knowledge of the field. Indeed, every person working for the company is known: from organic cotton producers to factory employees, etc. This knowledge allows for precise understanding of what is possible or not with a model. It is by going out into the field, walking in the Amazon rainforest, and relying on the employees present on-site who build relationships with local producers that the brand's success has been established. The reconciliation of ecology and design in this virtuous framework is facilitated, and the result obtained is much better!
