Pyrenex, a unique expertise for over 160 years

The family company Pyrenex was born in 1859 in the South West of France. In its early days, Abel Crabos collected goose and duck feathers from farms in the Landes region. A few years later, in 1925, his son, René Crabos, decided to join the family business based in Saint-Sever. 

It was in 1940 that the first Pyrenex jackets 'in solidarity' made their appearance. The design and manufacture of these jackets were done for humanitarian purposes. Indeed, they were shipped to Germany through the Red Cross to protect prisoners of war from the cold. 

After the war, in 1960, André Crabos, René's son, decided to design his first bedding items: duvets, pillows, mattress toppers... The company officially created the Pyrenex brand in 1968. Its name evokes the mountain ranges located near them, the playground for the clothing and sleeping bags that the brand designs. 

The success of the French brand grew rapidly, and it then expanded its range of technical jackets for the mountains. It specialised as one of the leaders in the design of equipment filled with goose and duck down. And collaborated with many French climbers. 

The Authentic Jacket was created in 1980, and it was a success! It became the iconic product of the brand and perfectly represents the French DNA and expertise. In the early 2000s, the Pyrénées brand managed to consolidate its position as a leader and specialist in down. The great return of the down jacket as a key wardrobe item also helped the brand come back to the forefront.
