Berghaus, your companion for alpine adventures

Berghaus was born in 1966 in the UK. At that time, outdoor sports clothing was not yet known as we know it today. The small company opened its first shop in Newcastle and specialised in selling quality outdoor gear. 

In its early days, Berghaus was solely a retailer of outdoor equipment. Following the growing success of their shop, the founders decided to design their own range of outdoor clothing. 

Interestingly, Berghaus means 'mountain house' in German. The brand's main aim is to create technical and innovative equipment for skiing, climbing, and mountaineering.

In its early days, the company decided to revolutionise backpacks for outdoor sports. From their first factory in Washington, the brand developed its first backpack: the Berg 172. A climbing backpack that no longer hinders you while climbing. A few years later, the brand also developed a unique new backpack with an internal frame: the Cyclops backpack. 

At the same time, the brand was developing a range of elite outdoor clothing. Adventurers from around the world are equipped with these warm and breathable garments. Berghaus also introduced its first Gemini jacket, which has made its name today. This multi-layer jacket combines an outer jacket and a fleece.

It works closely with several athletes, climbers, and adventurers to create innovative clothing that meets their needs. 

Innovation is at the heart of Berghaus product design. The company has developed its own technologies such as Bioflex®, a carrying system that works with the body's natural movements.
