The Devold brand was born in 1853, in the west of Norway. Following a trip to Germany, Ole Andreas Devold brought back mechanical knitting equipment to create wool underwear and gloves. At that time, the Norwegian brand primarily aimed to design rødlua, the famous Norwegian hats, symbols of adventure and exploration. 

Since its inception, Devold has had one goal: to create quality and innovative products for your outdoor adventures. Innovation is the key word in the design of these products. In the early 19th century, the company decided to create its own hydroelectric dam to facilitate electricity production, wash, and dye its wool. Devold has always been at the forefront of innovation and technology to design unique products of exceptional quality. 

Thanks to its expertise, Devold has also contributed to numerous social projects to improve the lives of its employees. The company was behind the creation of hospitals, churches, and kindergartens. At the same time, the brand decided to source wool from local farmers.

The brand's success began during the first polar expeditions at the end of the 19th century. The first explorers equipped themselves with underwear and sweaters from the brand for their expeditions. These warm and technical garments delighted many adventurers.
