Continental: German craftsmanship since 1871

The story of the Continental brand began in 1871 in Germany, specifically in the city of Hanover. It was in this city that the company 'Continental-Caoutchouc-und Gutta-Percha Compagnie' was founded. At that time, the Hanover factory produced flexible rubber products, including solid tyres for bicycles. In 1892, Continental became the first German company to manufacture bicycle tyres, then known as 'pneumatics'. Even today, Continental is the only German manufacturer of bicycle tyres, producing its ranges exclusively in Germany. This strong territorial anchoring provides particular motivation for the engineers and other employees of the brand throughout the entire tyre production process. Today, as a global player, Continental also develops its products outside Germany, where bicycle tyres are produced with the same care and dedication as at the German site in Korbach. All Continental tyres are first developed in the German research centre, where they undergo rigorous testing before going into production.
