The N°8 Carbon from Opinel is simply the reference of the range, available here in a more efficient version. Its specific carbon steel blade has undergone a thermal treatment that gives it better wear resistance and a durable edge. Carbon Steel: Opinel's carbon steel is a non-alloy steel with a high carbon content, which after the heat treatment operation, provides excellent hardness that ensures a perfect edge retention, high wear resistance, and easy re-sharpening. However, as carbon steel has low corrosion resistance to moisture, it requires specific precautions: do not leave your knife in a damp environment, especially in the dishwasher, wipe the blade with an oily cloth after use, and frequently oil both the blade and its joint.

Handle: Beech is the most commonly used wood for Opinel handles. Sourced from French operations, it is hard, durable, and easy to work with. With a homogeneous appearance, its light color ranges from yellow to pink. It is recognizable by the presence of numerous small dark streaks. The handle is varnished to be better protected against moisture and dirt.

Safety Ring: Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring equips all folding knives from N°06 onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety in transport).
