The N°12 Inox by Opinel is the perfect example of the durability one can expect from a knife. Its stainless steel blade offers increased durability, making it a true all-purpose knife. Thanks to its size and solid construction, it is suitable for cutting, cooking, hunting, or any demanding tasks. Equipped with the Yatagan blade that has made Opinel famous, its efficiency is well-proven. We appreciate its beech handle from French sources, easy to maintain and protected by a varnish. Its Virobloc locking mechanism allows you to keep the knife folded for safe travel or securely open during use. Robust and functional, the N°12 Inox by Opinel makes no compromises.
Sandvik Stainless Steel: The modified Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. The stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which allows for a very satisfactory sharpness without being prone to corrosion.
Yatagan Blade: The traditional Opinel blade is known as the Yatagan blade. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish saber, with an upturned tip. The blade is ground according to an exclusive convex profile that ensures the blade's robustness and allows for efficient resharpening.
Handle: Beech is the wood most commonly used for Opinel handles. Sourced from French operations, it is hard, durable, and easy to work with. With a homogeneous appearance, its light color varies from yellow to pink. It is recognizable by the presence of numerous small dark streaks. The handle is varnished for better protection against moisture and dirt.
Safety Ring: Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring equips all folding knives from N°06 onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (user safety), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (transport safety).
