Sleeping Bag Liners
The sleeping bag liner: what is it?
The sleeping bag liners, also known as liner bags, are essential items to take on your outdoor adventures. The sleeping liner can be used in various ways depending on your needs and the camping location! In summer, for instance, your bivouac nights can be relatively warm and the weather pleasant. When pitching your camping tent, you may find it too warm in your sleeping bag. Instead, use your liner bag, which is much lighter than a traditional sleeping bag! It will also take up much less space in your hiking backpack! Conversely, if you are hiking in winter, when temperatures are very low, a few extra degrees in your sleeping bag can make a difference. So, add your sleeping bag liner inside your camping duvet for added warmth and comfort. If you happen to sleep in a refuge or simply for better hygiene, the liner bag also helps combat germs. The sleeping liner is much easier to wash than a sleeping bag, a great advantage since it won't damage your duvet over time. Make sure to choose your sleeping bag liner suitable for the shape of your sleeping bag, whether it has a rectangular shape or a mummy shape.
Which sleeping bag liner to choose?
There are several materials that make up a sleeping bag liner. Depending on your preferences, budget, and the season in which you use your liner bag, it is advisable to prefer a silk liner over a cotton sleeping bag liner or a polar liner bag, for example.
The silk liner bag guarantees lightness, softness, and comfort. We recommend opting for a silk liner when you are hiking during the summer when outdoor temperatures are warm. In camping, in a refuge, or under the stars, the silk liner bag complements your sleeping bag or can be used on its own as a blanket. During winter, the silk liner bag provides extra protection in your sleeping bag against the cold. Silk liner bags are relatively expensive compared to other liners.
The cotton sleeping bag liner, on the other hand, offers better thermal insulation when temperatures are low during hiking or camping, while being much less expensive than silk liner bags. Even cheaper than the silk liner bag or the cotton sleeping bag liner, the microfiber sleeping bag liner offers a great alternative when temperatures are mild in summer.
The polar liner bag is a must-have for your polar expeditions and high-altitude hikes, such as the Annapurna Circuit or the Chamonix-Zermatt High Route in ski touring. Whether you sleep under your camping tent or in a refuge, the polar liner bag provides significant thermal insulation, allowing you to sleep warm even when temperatures are very low.
Finally, Thermolite® liners allow for quick warmth gain. The Thermolite® fiber, which is water-repellent and durable, is much lighter and more compact than polar fiber.
