Ski Backpacks: Your Companion on the Slopes!
The powder is here and waiting for you! Your skis, your ski jacket, your ski boots, your ski goggles, your ski helmet, in short, all your ski gear is ready to tackle the snow! Well, almost everything, as you still need one essential item: your ski backpack. Whether you're descending the slopes of your favourite ski resort or venturing into the deep powder with ski touring or freeride skiing, you need a proper ski backpack. Forget your Eastpack that bounces with every turn and hinders your shoulder and arm mobility. We're talking about a genuine ski backpack, a technical backpack specifically designed for skiing, that is lightweight, comfortable, durable, and practical. You don't need to test it to imagine how much it can positively transform your experience and enhance your comfort on the slopes! Your gloves, your beanie, your snack, your safety gear, or your personal belongings: your ski backpack will allow you to store all your items with ease. This way, you can enjoy your favourite winter sport with a clear mind. However, just as a pair of downhill skis is not suitable for touring skis, not all ski backpacks are created equal! There is indeed a model of ski backpack for each practice and for each of your specific needs. So, how do you find the perfect ski backpack for you? In this article, we provide you with all the keys to find the ski backpack that suits you!

Ski Backpacks: Why Choose a Specific Backpack for Skiing?
First and foremost, it is essential to understand why you should wear a ski backpack rather than any other backpack. For freeride or ski mountaineering enthusiasts, there is no doubt: weight is a fundamental criterion for choosing your ski backpack. Indeed, for this type of committed practice, every gram counts, which is why your ski backpack should be as lightweight as possible. Beyond weight, the ergonomics of your ski backpack must be tailored to your practice. It goes without saying that a ski backpack that doesn't fit snugly against your back and restricts your freedom of movement can quickly become problematic in the powder! Additionally, the functionality of your ski backpack is crucial: whether it's for storing simple accessories and personal items or your technical gear and ski equipment, your ski backpack must allow you to carry everything you need. Manufacturers have understood these needs and therefore offer ski backpacks specifically adapted to these activities. This is true for both freeride skiing and downhill skiing. Have you ever felt hindered by your backpack while racing down the slopes? Or spent several minutes searching for your beanie or water bottle because your backpack lacked pockets or functional storage? In addition to carrying comfort, a ski backpack offers ergonomics and functionality developed for skiing, incomparable to other ranges of backpacks. Freedom of movement, comfort, storage: a ski backpack can truly transform your practice and provide you with unmatched gliding comfort. Now that you understand the importance of wearing a ski backpack and its benefits for improving your practice, let's move on to the crucial point of this article: how to choose your ski backpack.

Choosing Your Ski Backpack: Everything You Need to Know
Practice, morphology, specific needs: it is essential to understand the needs and characteristics unique to each person to determine the criteria to base your choice of ski backpack on.

Ski Backpacks: Back Comfort and Size, Key Criteria
You wouldn't wear pants that are too big, would you? Or a t-shirt that's too short? Just like clothing, ski backpacks vary from model to model and correspond more or less to a specific size and morphology. First of all, know that there are ski backpacks specifically dedicated to men or women. This distinction is particularly advantageous as it is generally much better suited to the unique morphology of each gender, thus improving carrying comfort. Additionally, each ski backpack offers a different back length, making it more or less suitable depending on your height. The back length is therefore the first criterion to consider when choosing your ski backpack. After the size of your ski backpack, the carrying comfort is also crucial. Indeed, there are ski backpacks that offer additional comfort thanks to a back protection (which can sometimes be removable) and adjustable straps to adjust the height or fit to your shoulders. While comfort and size are critical, the volume of your ski backpack is also essential.

Ski Backpacks: What Volume to Choose?
It goes without saying that the volume of your ski backpack differs depending on whether you practice ski touring or downhill skiing. Since the needs are not the same, a ski touring backpack will necessarily be larger than a downhill ski backpack. For alpine skiing, a volume between 12 and 20 litres is generally ideal and sufficient. For ski touring or freeride skiing, however, a ski backpack with a volume between 30 and 35 litres is recommended, as it will allow you to store all the items you need for such activities, including your skins once the ascent is complete. If you're unsure between several volumes, the best approach is to prepare the items you wish to take with you for your ski day. Once your items are prepared, you can test putting them in a garbage bag or one of your other backpacks that are not for skiing. This way, you can judge whether the volume of the ski backpack you wish to choose is large enough or, conversely, too small to store all your belongings. Volume, size, comfort: all these criteria are essential for choosing your ski backpack. However, depending on your practice and needs, the accessorisation of your ski backpack can also be extremely important.

Ski Backpacks: What About Accessorisation?
Like hiking backpacks, some ski backpacks offer integrated water pockets, allowing you to hydrate easily during your practice. Moreover, if you practice ski touring or ski mountaineering, it may be wise to opt for a ski backpack equipped with specific compartments such as pockets and sleeves to store your ice axe and skins, for example. Specific attachments for carrying your skis or snowboard can also be interesting, especially if you often need to carry your skis or walk in the snow. For the more equipped, some ski backpacks offer specific pockets for storing your safety gear (shovel, probe...) and also provide emergency accessories such as a whistle. Additionally, if your practice leans more towards freeride skiing or ski touring, it is wise to choose a ski backpack with a waterproof membrane or a water-repellent material, as well as durable materials to withstand potential snags (trees, roots, branches...). If you've ever found your ski backpack completely soaked and your belongings inside as well, or torn at the slightest snag, then you'll agree that these are crucial selection criteria. Finally, each ski backpack offers different adjustments, allowing you to fit your ski backpack to your morphology more or less well. If your practice is subject to many jolts or if you have a small build, it is therefore important to focus on these different adjustments to ensure that your ski backpack is sufficiently secured and fitted.

Ski Airbag Backpacks: For What Use?
A category in its own right, ski airbag backpacks provide additional safety for powder enthusiasts and those skiing off the beaten track. In the event of an avalanche, a airbag backpack allows you to rise to the surface of the snow, making it easier to locate and free yourself from the snow. While most ski airbag backpacks have an integrated airbag that cannot be removed, some offer a removable airbag solution that can be taken off and put back on at your convenience. A genuine ski backpack, the ski airbag backpack offers, just like a traditional backpack, storage, functionalities, and adjustments identical to those of a ski backpack, with a pocket or straps that also include an airbag. Generally heavier than traditional ski backpacks, airbag backpacks come in various volumes, allowing you to avoid compromising between safety and storage capacity.

Ski Backpacks: How to Choose the Right One Based on Your Practice?
The practices of skiing are diverse and varied, and so are the ski backpacks. Specifically designed to adapt to different practices, the various models of ski backpacks allow you to find the ideal ski backpack for your practice and needs.

Ski Backpacks for Alpine Skiing
Generally ranging between 12 and 28 litres, a ski backpack for alpine skiing is designed to make your life easier on the ski slopes. Thus, a ski backpack for such practice typically features compartments, useful for separating your various accessories and belongings, allowing you to find them without having to empty your ski backpack on the slopes! Additionally, some models come with an integrated back protector or absorbent padded foams, aimed at protecting your back in case of impact. And what about snowboarding? Know that most ski backpacks are suitable for snowboarding and are therefore versatile. Your ski backpack includes fixation straps, which can be used to carry both your skis and your snowboard, or even your snowshoes! Unmatched versatility!-Poacher 14L -Dakine-Heli Pro 24L - Dakine-Women's Heli Pack 12L -Dakine

Ski Backpacks for Ski Touring and Freeride Skiing
For ski touring and freeride skiing, the key words are lightness and functionality. Thus, the capacity generally ranges between 25 and 35 litres for day trips. You can find a ski backpack for ski touring and freeride skiing that offers quick access to the bag, a ski helmet holder, an ice axe holder, ski attachment straps, and a compartment for storing your safety gear. Additionally, these ski backpacks usually have a ventilation system to provide good breathability during exertion. If the ski touring backpacks do not meet your volume needs, you can opt for a mountaineering backpack, which will offer you a larger capacity.-Neo 20 -Millet-Steep 22 -Millet-Tour Rider 30 -Ortovox

Ski Backpacks for Ski Mountaineering
More or less similar to ski touring backpacks, ski mountaineering backpacks are, however, made of even lighter and more durable materials to facilitate your ascent and withstand the most extreme conditions. Here, minimalism is the order of the day, both in terms of design and construction: superfluous items have no place in this type of ski backpack. However, these ski backpacks are designed for ski mountaineering, so the necessary storage, ice axe holders, and other functionalities are indeed present.-Pierra Sprint 10 -Millet-Light Removable Airbag 3.0 -Mammut

Find Your Ski Backpack on Hardloop.co.uk
Alpine skiing, freeride skiing, ski touring, or ski mountaineering: you will find all models of ski backpacks for all your winter sports practices on Hardloop.co.uk.
