Hiking Baselayers
Choosing your technical base layers for hiking, an essential first layer
What a joy it is to traverse the GR20 North and admire the natural treasures of northern Corsica! Of course, this trek is no walk in the park, but the right equipment will allow you to tackle it with relative ease. To cope with the sweltering heat of July, you must consider the breathability of your first layer to maintain optimal comfort. The first layer you wear is often made up of technical base layers, and it is one of the most important, especially when outdoor temperatures rise significantly. A technical garment is a textile that comes into direct contact with your skin and is, naturally, exposed to sweat. Thus, “technical garment” refers to the layers that are in direct contact with your skin: this can specifically include your underwear (bra, boxers), but also a warm hiking base layer, also known as thermal underwear. Their primary function should be to quickly and effectively wick away moisture to prevent accumulation or the proliferation of unpleasant odours. Provided you choose a quality technical hiking base layer, sweat will no longer spoil your treks in the great outdoors! It is wise to wear a merino wool base layer if you are walking in warm weather; however, this type of technical garment is also particularly suited for cooler or even very cold temperatures. Various materials can be used in the composition of a thermal base layer, but it often provides excellent thermal protection suited to outdoor climatic conditions, especially if made from merino wool. Whether you opt for a short-sleeved t-shirt or high leggings, you won’t regret investing in a technical hiking base layer that is both warm and lightweight. If you’re looking for an Odlo tight suitable for mountain trekking, the Revolution X-Warm tight will be perfectly suited for this as the Odlo thermal underwear regulates and retains heat. Quite advantageous when you find yourself at the summit of Mera Peak! Comfort is the key aspect of a technical garment; you’ll feel as if you’re not wearing anything and will remain protected from the elements. Soft and generally stretchy, the technical base layer will never leave your wardrobe!
A wide choice to find your hiking base layer
Hiking requires good support in sensitive areas protected by your technical base layers. Walking for several hours necessitates a good fit to avoid discomfort. A hiking base layer ensures perfect moisture wicking and, in general, excellent thermoregulation. Also, for women, good breast support is important to avoid back pain. A real good reason to take care of your body with women's hiking base layers! Also, technical garments apply to both the upper and lower body. Tights, warm long-sleeved base layers, each piece has its importance! Enhance your performance and comfort with equipment suited to your practice.
