At the age of 17, Fernand Petzl discovered caving. Since then, he has constantly sought to improve the equipment he uses. As his inventions took up more and more space, he set up his own workshop and expanded his business. In 1968, the inventor marketed his first products and founded the company in 1970. Quickly, the first tools for exploring the depths emerged. Among them were Petzl rope pulleys, carabiners, belay devices, descenders, and blockers. Since then, the family business has offered a complete range of Petzl harnesses, Petzl ropes  and climbing equipment.
